This 75mm diameter brown & cream tin (with some golden dubbin remaining) was manufactured prior to 1943 when John Dales ceased manufacture. The London N11 code is interesting since all known addresses prior to the move to Dunstable were in south London. Perhaps this was a sales office? In any case, London postal districts weren’t allocated number until 1917, prior to which they were just letters. Which dates this tin between 1917 and 1943.

This 75mm diameter brown & cream tin (with some golden dubbin remaining) was manufactured was manufactured between 1943 and 1989 by Carr & Day & Martin who took over the brand name after the winding up of the John T. Dales Ltd business during WWII. It is interesting to compare this with the previous two earlier by similar tins above, where the list of applications gives an insight into the passing uses of leather over the years.

This large black and white printed tin, 95mm diameter and 23mm deep, was manufactured between 1936 and 1989 by Carr & Day & Martin Ltd at their Great Dunmow factory in Essex. The 1880 date harks back to when John T. Dales started his business, not the more usual date of 1770 for the CDM business.

This large brown and white printed tin, 95mm diameter and 23mm deep, was manufactured between 1936 and 1989 by Carr & Day & Martin Ltd at their Great Dunmow factory in Essex. All historical references are now lost. The possessive proper noun of Dales having been written as Dales’ since 1880 have now been simplified to plain Dales, thereby losing its heritage and so alludes, perhaps, to hillside walking and hiking type of activities where, realistically, the dubbin market now lay.
